During this year´s TCA Press Tour in Beverly Hills, a critic saw James Purefoy in the trailer. Showrunner Chris Chibnall has then confirmed that James Purefoy, who has starred in “Rome” will be playing the role of King Lot. The character of King Lot is described as being “not a nice guy” and the character is expected to be a recurring role only.
Actor Joseph Fiennes, who has also attended, give some interesting scoop on his character Merlin. The character of Merlin is said to be like a mentor and a father figure to Arthur, wo tries everything in his power to lead Arthur on the right path to become the king Camelot desperatly needs.
“Merlin is a cross between Obi Wan Kenobi and Donald Rumsfeld,”
He also said that while the show will have some magical elements, politics will play a far more important role in the series.
“The magic lies in the political essences of the piece,” Fiennes said. “Yes, there will be in dark arts — you’ll see things disappearing and changing shape, but it’s really about the birth of a legend. It’s [a land where] power is given to the wrong individuals, a country split by war and greed … and the assent of a pure king and noble minds.”
