Actor Joseph Fiennes, who has also attended, give some interesting scoop on his character Merlin. The character of Merlin is said to be like a mentor and a father figure to Arthur, wo tries everything in his power to lead Arthur on the right path to become the king Camelot desperatly needs.

He says:

“Merlin is a cross between Obi Wan Kenobi and Donald Rumsfeld,”

He also said that while the show will have some magical elements, politics will play a far more important role in the series.

Fiennes says:

“The magic lies in the political essences of the piece,” Fiennes said. “Yes, there will be in dark arts — you’ll see things disappearing and changing shape, but it’s really about the birth of a legend. It’s [a land where] power is given to the wrong individuals, a country split by war and greed … and the assent of a pure king and noble minds.”
